Okra with Lamb (Bamya)

Sometimes we miss eating a hot juicy yet delicious meal to provide us with warmth and relaxation. We brought to you this oriental dish to make sure you have the chance to try a wide range of meals coming from a wide variety of different cultures. Okra with tomato sauce is a dish that you can eat in Africa and especially in the middle east. It's a good plate to have for a change while keeping your carbs in the right range.

  • 2 tbsp of butter
  • 1 diced onion
  • 2 finely chopped garlic cloves
  • 500 g lamb backstrap, cut into thick pieces
  • 6 pureed tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • salt and pepper
  • 250 ml stock or water (optional)
  • 500 g okra, topped and tailed
  • 1 lemon, juiced



Melt the butter in a saucepan and sauté the onion until soft, then add garlic. 


Fry for a couple of minutes then add the lamb until half cooked and lightly browned.


Add the tomato puree and paste and season to taste with salt and pepper.


Add the stock or water. Cover and simmer for 30–35 minutes.


Add the okra and cook for another 5–10 minutes.


Add the lemon juice and remove from the heat. Serve with keto bread, butter some bread and toast them in the oven till they become crispy.
